If you're hesitating with the answer you're wrong...the answer is no.
Peanut butter and chocolate is and always will be, hands down, the best combo in the world.
I know, I know... It's a bold statement, but you can't fight the truth people.
One of the guys at the office had a birthday a few weeks ago and being a huge fan of the dynamic duo, I knew what had to be done.
Last year I made him an ultra rich Chocolate & Peanut Butter Overload Cake, so this year I mixed it up a little and made cupcakes.
I used my Dark Chocolate Cake recipe (which also happens to be my favorite) filled each with a peanut butter cup surprise and topped 'em with some delicious Peanut Butter Buttercream (recipe below).
1 stick butter
1 cup peanut butter
3 cups powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla
*possibly some milk or cream if its too thick
In a large bowl beat butter and peanut butter until smooth and creamy.
Slowly add powdered sugar and vanilla until smooth and creamy.
Cupcake Construction
Whip up your favorite chocolate cake recipe.
Prepare cupcake pan with liners and unwrap all your mini peanut butter cups.
Place one peanut butter cup in the bottom of each cupcake liner.
Allow cupcakes to cool completely before frosting.
In the mean time, make your peanut butter buttercream.
Once cupcakes have cooled, pipe a good helping of buttercream on each cupcake.
Enjoy!
Happy Baking!

Well, it's not even my birthday. Thanks for making my morning. I hope the birthday boy likes these as much as I do. Hope you have a great weekend.

I love the peanut butter cup surprise! I baked cupcakes with a cookie dough surprise for boys this week and they couldn't get over the hidden treat in the middle. It cracked me up! Hope these go over just as well (even though I know they will...your baking always looks fantastic and chocolate peanut butter is.the.best.)
Ah, that would be a great treat for a peanut butter/chocolate lover. There are two of those in my family. For me, no, not the best combo though. The word caramel needs to be in there for the best. :)
Now we're talking!
YUMM
Candy and cake are good but the choice of reese's makes these extra special-Yum!
I completely agree, I'm a peanut butter and chocolate lover all the way!
I used to love those peanut butter cups when I lived in Boston. Not sure what I'd substitute here, but even without it, I'm sure these cupcakes would be delicious. Peanut butter and chocolate is a great combo!
Mighty Tasty!!
Chocolate and peanut butter aren't big down under so there aren't peanut butter cups. But.. there IS a Baskin Robbins not too far from here and I went there yesterday for a chocolate peanut butter cone. I felt American again for about 12 minutes. :)
I'll have to make some clone peanut butter cups and try this recipe and I could feel American again for about a week! LOL
Lucky guy! And rest of the office! Soo delicious. The peanut butter cup surprise is a great touch!
It's a winning combination. I love the peanut butter cup surprise in them. These look so delicious. Yummy!
Evan, these are fantastic!! I love the flavors, the piping, the everything! Lucky man!
These are so pretty, and yes peanut butter and chocolate are a divine combination :) These really sound wonderful!
Love the versatility of your dark chocolate cupcake recipe and a PB surprise makes it special enough for birthdays. Wish you would have shown us a pic of the inside. Guess I will just have to bake 'em for myself to experience the sensation.
These are a work of art, Evan! What a lovely, delicious looking treat and a lucky coworker to receive them for his birthday. :) Great job on these and thanks for sharing yet another amazing baked creation to come out of your kitchen!
